Boots & Laces dances the first & third Fridays, from the third Friday in September through the first Friday in June.

We dance Plus with 1 round from 7:00 to 8:00 pm and Mainstream with two rounds from 8:00 to 10:00 pm.

Boots and Laces Club History

The Boots and Laces Square Dance Club was formed in 1949, making it one of the oldest clubs in the state. Dances were first held in the Midway Grange Hall with Bert Whipple as their first caller.

Other callers and cuers for the Boots and Laces have been Don Fenwick, Wes & Ann Griswold, Don Scofield, Jack Leicht, Pat & Phyllis Mugrage, Mike Olson, Betty & Orin Voigt, Mary & Russ Morrison, Marge & Bill Kost, Eddie & Gail Harry and Don & Marie Wood.

Mike Olson was Teen Champion Caller in 1979. He is the son of Boots and Laces Member, Jerry Olson.

The Boots and Laces have danced in many locations including Thomas Episcopal Church, St. Louise Catholic Church, Highland Community Center, Highland Middle School, Mercer Island Community Center, Hagen’s Barn and Aqua Barn.

The Boots and Laces moved to Meridian Grange in Kent in September, 2001.

Four couples have been presented the “Jack Willison Memorial Award” from Central Puget Sound Council for outstanding service, effort and promotion of square dancing for Clubs, Council and the State Federation. This award is presented at the spring council dance. These couples are Ron & Pat Hoot, 2000; Nancy Newell & Ron Sadowski, 2001; Bob & Jan Emerson, 2003; Eddie & Gail Harry, 2008 and Diana Aldrich in 2014.

In September, 2004, Boots and Laces welcome Debbie & Paul Taylor as our new cuer.

Ron & Pat Hoot, 1999 and Margaret Miller, 2007, have received The President’s Award at the State Festival. They were given this award for giving exceptional service to further the development of square and round dancing within the State of Washington.

At the June 21, 2008, Pageant for the State Festival in Longview, WA, Debbie & Paul Taylor were presented with the McNutt Award which goes to a Round Dance Cuer for their teaching, promotion, dedication and participation in the Round Dance activity.

Ron & Pat Hoot, 2004, and Margaret Mill, 2009, have received the MacGregor Award that is presented in June at the State Festivals. This is to recognize them as one who has done an outstanding job of promoting square dancing and has worked in phases of our activity.

In June, 2001, Boots and Laces welcomed Don & Marie Wood as our new caller.

Robbie Robbins was our oldest member of Boots and Laces.

In September, 2013, Boots and Laces welcomed Steve Noseck as our new caller.

Boots and Laces have the honor of indoctrinating 17 Lifetime Members, who achieved this honor after serving 25 years with the club. The are Wes* & Anne* Griswold, Don & Marge Scofield, Bert* & Eleanor Avery, Bill & Karel Birdsall, George* & Shirley Lindahl, Merl & Ellen Zigler, Ed* & Allie Henninger, Robbie & Irene Robbins and Bob Schmidt.
